How are you feeling during your pregnancy? Are you tired and achy, or just feeling a little out of sorts?
Pregnancy can be a challenging time. You're carrying extra weight, your hormones are up and down and your emotions are all over the place – if there was ever a time for a massage, pregnancy is it!
A pregnancy massage not only helps with relieving the aches and pains felt through pregnancy, but it gives you a moment to connect your mind and body and build a relationship with your growing baby.
Pregnancy Massage
Pregnancy massage is a specialised massage technique for mums-to-be. It differs from a regular massage because it focuses on the pregnant body and the areas under pressure during pregnancy. It also avoids certain pressure points that need to be avoided.
Typically, pregnancy massages are lighter and more relaxing, much like a Swedish massage. Although they’re a lovely way to relax, pregnancy massages also aim to make you feel more connected and at every stage of your pregnancy.
Benefits of pregnancy massage include:
Relaxing and de-stressing
Reduces swelling in feet, legs and arms
Reduces muscular aches and pains in back, neck and shoulders
Increases mobility
Stabilises hormonal changes and blood pressure
Flushes out toxins
Improves mood and energy
Assists in creating a connection between baby and mum
Helps with insomnia and sleep issues
What is Pregnancy Massage?
Once you arrive for your massage, your massage therapist will discuss your health, blood pressure, aches and pains and experiences during pregnancy.
Your therapist will ask you to either lay on your side on the massage table and you’ll be bolstered with pillows to keep you comfy, or lie face down using one of our belly pillows to support and protect your bump.
Each trimester comes with different body changes. Our pregnancy massage therapist adapts the massage for each stage of your pregnancy.
What to Expect?
During the first trimester your massage is gentle and relaxing. Its aim is to ease headaches and muscular aches that begin at the start of your pregnancy. It also works to improve your energy.
First Trimester
The massage during the second trimester focuses on pain felt throughout the hips and lower back, as your baby begins to grow and change positions.
Second Trimester
The third-trimester massage focuses on your emotional wellbeing and connection with your baby – aligning the body and mind. It also serves to prepare you for labour.
Third Trimester
It’s important you check with your doctor before you book your appointment, especially if your pregnancy is a high risk one.
We recommend you book your massage around the time of your prenatal check-up so any changes in your pregnancy are brought to your attention before your appointment.
We like to ask you about your blood pressure before we get started. Remember to ask your doctor at your check-up.
