Melissa Booyens, Physiotherapist

Education: University of Pretoria in South Africa

Experience: Melissa is a passionate and experienced physiotherapist with over 10 years of clinical experience. She completed her training at the University of Pretoria in South Africa, where she ran a successful private practice focused on musculoskeletal (MSK) conditions. In 2018, she completed a postgraduate certificate in Sports Physiotherapy (SPT), deepening her expertise in treating athletes and active individuals.

With a sporting background in hockey and squash, Melissa understands first-hand the physical and emotional challenges that come with injury. Her approach is highly hands-on, with a strong foundation in manual therapy and dry needling. She combines this with tailored rehabilitation and movement-based strategies to help patients return to optimal function. Whether managing sports injuries, chronic pain, or general MSK concerns, she is committed to identifying and treating the underlying cause—not just the symptoms.

Melissa has developed a particular passion for women’s and pelvic health, offering support across all life stages, including antenatal and postpartum care. She works with women experiencing pelvic pain, incontinence, prolapse, constipation, and helps guide them through safe and effective return to exercise or sport after birth. Melissa is trained in internal pelvic examinations and real-time ultrasound imaging, creating a respectful and safe space where women feel empowered and supported.

Interests: Outside of work, you’ll find Melissa at the gym, out for a (casual) run, spending quality time with her family, or relaxing with a good book.

She is known for her warm, approachable nature and ability to build strong rapport with patients. Melissa stays up to date with the latest research and clinical guidelines and enjoys regularly attending professional development courses. She is a proud member of the Australian Physiotherapy Association (APA).

For Melissa, physiotherapy is about education, connection, and empowering people to move well and live confidently—at every stage of life.
