Are you looking for shoulder pain treatment?

Are you feeling pain in your shoulder or upper arm? Think something might be wrong? Shoulder pain is common

Your shoulder is where your upper-arm bones (humerus), shoulder blades (scapula) and the collarbone (clavicle) meet. There are two joints held together with groups of muscles and tendons.

Shoulders cover a wide range of movement and are subject to wear and tear, especially as you age.

What does shoulder pain feel like?

Shoulder pain ranges from mild to intense, depending on the cause of the pain. You may experience a sharp pain, tingling sensation, discomfort in the upper arm or reduced mobility of the shoulder and arm.

Common shoulder pain symptoms:

  • Decreased movement

  • Feeling that shoulder is popped out of socket

  • Weakness

  • Tightness

  • Pain in shoulder joint

  • Pins and needles

  • Pain in arm

Causes of shoulder pain

Shoulder pain could be caused by day-to-day activities like reaching for an object on a high shelf or exercising. It can also just be a result of general wear and tear.

Much like hip pain, shoulder pain usually emanates from one specific area in the shoulder, but it can also be a referred pain from your neck.

Causes of shoulder pain:

  • Rotator cuff disorders

  • History of a dislocated shoulder

  • Adhesive capsulitis (frozen shoulder)

  • Referred pain from neck and back

  • Osteoarthritis

  • Bursitis

  • Abnormal/poor posture (rounded shoulders)

How do we treat shoulder pain?

Chiropractic

Chiropractors are spine specialists. They understand all parts of the body are connected, and that your shoulder pain may be due to a spine misalignment.

Your chiropractor will ask you about your medical history, as well as information on previous injuries, lifestyle and working life.

They will examine your shoulder, spine and posture, and move parts of your body to test mobility. This is all to find the cause of your shoulder pain and create a treatment plan to help reduce the pain and heal the area.

A shoulder pain treatment plan may include:

Remedial massage/soft tissue massage

Remedial massage can be an effective treatment for shoulder pain. It repairs deep muscle tissue, realigns connective tissue, breaks down muscle adhesion and reduces trigger points (knots) that cause pain.

Remedial massages can:

  • Reduce tightness

  • Improve mobility

  • Increases circulation

  • Speeds up recovery

  • Reduce trigger points (knots)

Acupuncture

At Canning Healthcare, we also use acupuncture to complement our other therapies or as a standalone treatment. Acupuncture helps to reduce inflammation and lessen the severity of pain.
